This Senior Coordination Officer/Economist will be responsible for driving evidence-based Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) analysis, providing strategic advice on innovative economic and SDG policies, and leading the development of new SDG programmes with a strong investment orientation.
- Drove research and analysis to support UN Country Teams' understanding of sustainable development trends, challenges, and opportunities in programme countries.
- Provided expert advice on innovative economic and SDG policies to Resident Coordinators, UNCTs, national counterparts in government, and other relevant partners.
- Led the development by the UNCT of new-generation SDG programmes with a focus on acceleration towards achieving the SDGs.
- Directed research and analysis of macroeconomic variables and models of host countries to identify bottlenecks and establish scenarios for fiscal, monetary, and social conditions to attain SDG.
- Conducted research and analysis of social and income data of host countries to identify inequities gaps in labor markets and education, health, and public services hindering progress towards SDG.
- Assessed environmental data and indicators related to natural resource use and climate change impact to support sustainable development and climate change policy initiatives in host countries.
- Evaluated econometric or statistical quantitative and qualitative models to provide evidence-based evaluations and recommendations on policy options for host countries to attain SDG.
- Identified accelerator interventions to unlock and accelerate progress towards sustainable development across multiple areas.
- Ancillary assessment of sustainable development trade-offs and risk factors, as well as early-warning indicators that may undermine achievement of SDG targets and UN's role and programme in the country, identifying appropriate measures to address them.
- Supervised collection and analysis of data on UN country-level operations in support of implementation of the 2030 Agenda, identifying gaps and proposing follow-up actions.
- Managed research, development, and presentation of policy papers, guidance notes, and knowledge-based tools, directing discussion in country-level forums to influence and advance policy dialogue on achieving the SDGs.
- Coordinated preparation of UN flagship reports, including analysis of data, ensuring provision of evidence to build case for policies and interventions on SDGs.
- Overseen monitoring regional and global economic trends and issues, analyzing implications for realization of SDGs at country level, recommending additional issues for consideration.
