Job Summary

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Residence Manager and Culinary Expert to join our team in Colombo. As the Chef and Residence Manager, you will be responsible for the smooth operation of the High Commissioner's Residence, including the planning and preparation of meals for official events and the management of a team of residence staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the High Commissioner's Residence, ensuring a high standard of maintenance and organization.
  • Lead a team of residence staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful delivery of events and the smooth running of the residence.
  • Plan and prepare meals for official events, including receptions, buffets, and formal dinners, using a range of culinary skills and knowledge of different cuisines.
  • Manage the residence's budget and finances, ensuring that all expenses are accounted for and that the residence operates within its means.
  • Ensure that the residence meets the highest standards of hygiene and safety, including the management of food safety and the maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Provide support to the High Commissioner and their family, including the preparation of meals and the management of household staff.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in managing a team and planning and preparing meals for large events.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent culinary skills and knowledge of different cuisines, including British and Sri Lankan cuisine.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
Working Arrangements

The successful candidate will be required to work a 48-hour week, including some evenings and weekends. The role will involve flexible working arrangements, including the possibility of working from home or remotely.
