**Position**:
Responsible for legal affairs for the Elanco business in Brazil. This role is both strategic and operational.
This attorney will be providing strategic and operational legal support regarding a broad range of legal affairs including commercial, manufacturing, litigation, competition law, anti-corruption, regulatory, environmental and other legal matters. The attorney serves on the Brazil core lead team.
**Main **Responsibilities**:
- Provide strategic legal counseling to the Brazil organization;
- Member of Brazil core lead team;
- Daft, review and negotiate all types of contracts related to the business;
- Proactively prevent, detect and respond to legal risks in the commercial operations;
- Provide for all legal needs of manufacturing sites procedures, i.e. legal and regulatory issues involving the manufacturing site, legal support to procurement activities for the site;
- Provide legal advice on competition law;
- Develop training plan and provide legal training to staff;
- Manage legal corporate documents for Brazil affiliate;
- Legal review of promotional materials;
- Provide legal support to local compliance and privacy officers;
- Manage local litigation with external counsels;
- Monitor and supervise external counsel and legal spend;
- Provide local legal advice on labor issues;
- Provide legal advice for HR issues;
- Evaluate business partnerships with distributors, vendors and industry organizations;
- Provide Ethics and Compliance support, as local point of contact.
**Requirements**:
- Seasoned attorney with 8+ years in practice and experience preferably as in‐house legal counsel in the pharma, animal health industry, food industry, or other consumer oriented or highly regulated industry;
- Additional private practice experience is a plus;
- Juris Doctor or equivalent legal degree;
- Fluent in Portuguese (native proficiency) and English. Spanish would be a plus.
**Required Skills and Experience**:
- Demonstrated skills in providing strategic advice and leadership, including the ability to persuade and influence decision‐making;
- Pragmatic, solution-oriented attitude;
- Sound business acumen and commercial awareness and practically-oriented, ability to identify and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively, ability to provide solution-oriented legal advices;
- Leadership and effectiveness in working with senior management to find innovative solutions to existing and emerging challenges;
- Proven experience in taking a stand, constructive confrontation and challenging leadership as appropriate;
- Experience leveraging external counsel to provide business‐critical, pragmatic legal support in cost‐efficient manner;
- Experience in international business and commercial transactions including competition law and anti-trust matters;
- Experience in international and extra‐territorial legal matters, including US FCPA, trade sanctions, Import/Export, and Anti‐Boycott compliance issues.
