The British Government is an inclusive and diversity-friendly employer.We value difference, promote equality and challenge discrimination, enhancing our organisational capability.We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds.We do not discriminate on the basis of disability, race, colour, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, age, veteran status or other category protected by law.We promote family-friendly flexible working opportunities, where operational and security needs allow.The FCDO operates an agile workforce and to facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time, as we may reasonably require.Job Category Department for Business and Trade roles (DBT) Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities) Main purpose of job: The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is responsible for promoting UK trade and investment with the rest of the world.We are the department for economic growth.We support businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the UK.DBT divides the world into 9 regions, each led by His Majesty's Trade Commissioner.LATAC is a rich region full of business opportunities that support the growth agenda of the UK government This is a strategically important role at the heart of the UK's trade operations in Latin America and the Caribbean.As Chief of Staff and Residence Manager to His Majesty's Trade Commissioner (HMTC) and Consul General (CG), you will provide high-level executive support, lead on representational and operational planning, and manage the LATAC Executive Office team.This position requires excellent judgement, discretion, and leadership, with responsibility for coordinating complex stakeholder engagement, managing sensitive information, and ensuring the smooth running of the official residence.This is a trusted role supporting the Trade Commissioner in LATAC.All responsibilities must be delivered to the highest standards with minimal supervision.Roles and responsibilities: Executive Support to HMTC & CG (60%) Lead the strategic coordination of HMTC's diary, engagements, and priorities, ensuring alignment with regional goals and stakeholder needs.Oversee briefing processes across the LATAC Network, ensuring quality, consistency, and strategic relevance for high-level meetings, media engagements, and official visits.Act as a senior liaison between HMTC and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring effective deployment and impact.Manage the HMTC's discretionary budget, ensuring compliance, value for money, and accurate forecasting.Serve as Secretariat to the LATAC Leadership Board, working with the COO to shape agendas and ensure effective governance of senior leadership meetings.Residence Management (25%) Provide strategic oversight of the official residence as both a representational venue and private home, ensuring high standards of service and compliance with FCDO protocols.Lead planning and delivery of official events, coordinating logistics, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure excellence and efficiency.Line manage residence staff, ensuring performance, development, and integration with wider Consulate activities.Maintain inventory, health and safety compliance, and financial accountability for residence operations, applying Value for Money principles.Represent the UK Government professionally during official events, ensuring a welcoming and diplomatic environment.LATAC Executive Office Leadership (15%) Lead and manage the LATAC Executive Office team (3 AOs) Provide strategic direction and coordination across internal and external communications, ensuring consistency and responsiveness.Champion continuous improvement and professional development within the team.Resources managed (staff and expenditure): 3 AOs Language requirements: Language: English & Portuguese Level of language required: Fluent written and spoken (CEFR C1 essential;
