Overview

Varsity Tutors, a Nerdy company, is seeking high-performing sales professionals based in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, or Costa Rica to join our Customer Retention team. This is a sales-focused remote, full-time role where your primary responsibility is to retain revenue, overcome objections, and turn cancel requests into renewed confidence in our product. Our Customer Retention Specialists are closers who bring empathy, resilience, and strong sales instincts to every conversation. This role handles high-level customer escalations, prevents churn, and drives renewals. You will work closely with the sales and training teams, use tools like Nerdy AI, and be supported by a coaching-driven culture dedicated to your success. This is a fully remote, full-time position focused on retention and renewals.

Location: Fully Remote – Based in Brazil, Argentina, Chile or Costa Rica

Compensation/Benefits
  • Competitive Hourly Rate ($12/hr USD)
  • Full-Time Position (40 hours per week, evenings and weekends required)

Qualifications
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); strong verbal persuasion skills
  • 3+ years in sales, customer retention, account management, or high-stakes customer service (preferably phone-based or consultative)
  • Proven ability to meet sales or retention goals, handle objections, and close deals under pressure
  • High empathy and emotional intelligence; ability to understand families’ educational needs and tailor recommendations
  • Experience handling escalations or save/cancel conversations with a solution-focused approach
  • Tech-savvy; comfortable using AI tools and CRM systems; able to thrive in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to multitask
  • Willing to work a full-time schedule including evenings and weekend shifts
  • Education, teaching, or tutoring experience preferred but not required
  • Network requirements: High-speed internet (50 Mbps down, 10 Mbps up) via wired connection; no Wi-Fi, satellite, or cellular hotspot
  • Commitment to Nerdy’s focus on education and collaborative culture
Responsibilities
  • Own and manage a high volume of inbound calls from customers considering cancellation, with a focus on retaining revenue and delivering value
  • Act as a consultative sales professional to uncover needs and recommend solutions (e.g., tutoring programs, live classes, homeschool support)
  • Deflect cancellations through empathetic, informed conversations that build confidence in Nerdy
  • Take ownership of at-risk accounts and re-engage them with personalized outreach and recommendations
  • Meet and exceed sales and retention targets (saves, renewals, customer satisfaction)
  • Use Nerdy AI and internal systems to guide conversations and surface the right offerings
  • Collaborate with sales, product, and training teams to incorporate customer feedback into retention strategy
  • Continually apply coaching and feedback to improve performance and customer interactions
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and follow-up on accounts
What Success Looks Like
  • Consistently save at-risk customers by understanding needs and recommending Nerdy products
  • Act as a trusted guide for families, showing how Nerdy solutions evolve with their child’s journey
  • Hit or exceed weekly/monthly revenue retention targets and earn commissions
  • Use feedback and Nerdy AI to improve continuously
