Job Summary
As a key member of our team at Safeguard Global Recruiting, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Country Director to lead our animal welfare efforts in Brazil. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing local staff, collaborating with headquarters, and driving programmatic effectiveness in the country.
Main Responsibilities
1. Supervise local staff in Brazil and provide oversight, support, and leadership across departments to enhance integration, value, consistency, and programmatic effectiveness in the country.
2. Build a cohesive and mutually supportive team in Brazil, ensuring that all staff are oriented and trained in conjunction with HSI HQ staff.
3. Conduct annual and mid-year performance reviews, providing related recommendations for salary increases, promotion, or termination/disciplinary action.
4. Collaborate with the VP, Country Offices, and relevant program VP on the creation of job descriptions, as necessary.
5. Ensure that local program staff coordinate with global program leads in the development of programmatic strategy and identification of resources needed for program implementation.
6. Review and submit for approval contracts and invoices in compliance with organizational policies.
7. Draft a yearly budget for HSI program and operations in Brazil, ensuring appropriate implementation of the approved budget.
Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree in communications, law, business management, international relations, or other related field or equivalent work experience required.
2. A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in strategic communications or advocacy, preferably in the animal protection field required.
3. Experience in reviewing administrative documents, including contracts and budgets.
4. Experience of working in a cross-departmental leadership position.
5. Management/supervisory experience required.

1. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
2. Fluency in English and Portuguese.
3. Ability to work collaboratively and proactively to anticipate steps, needs, and identify risks and opportunities.
4. Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated, and proactive.
5. Ability to manage issues requiring problem resolution and conflict management with excellent interpersonal and intervention skills.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
7. Knowledge of business operations, including effective budget development and management processes.
8. Attention to detail and commitment to excellence, demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes.
9. Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
