Linux Support Role Overview

We are seeking an Associate Linux Support Engineer to join our team and play a key role in delivering outstanding technical support experiences for our customers.

About the Job
  • This position offers an opportunity for hands-on engineers with a passion for Linux and open source technologies to work with industry leaders and contribute to the growth of Canonical's products and services.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering exceptional technical support across cloud, desktop, and IoT platforms, while working collaboratively with our internal teams.
Main Responsibilities
  • To provide remote technical support for employees and resolve issues efficiently.
  • To take ownership of new cases via telephone, email, and web-based platforms, prioritizing tasks to ensure timely resolution.
  • To act as an internal customer advocate, keeping them informed about case status and progress.
  • To handle each support case according to our Service Level Agreement (SLA) and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction by setting clear expectations and fulfilling commitments.
  • To contribute new knowledge base articles, maintaining existing ones to ensure shared knowledge and lessons learned are available to customers.
  • To draft and distribute technical notices for internal and external communication.
  • To prioritize tasks effectively, focusing on urgent and important matters first.
  • To continuously learn and adapt to the evolving products and services landscape.
  • To maintain regular communication with the rest of the team, both locally and remotely.
  • To identify opportunities to improve service delivery and suggest enhancements.
Requirements
  • An academic record demonstrating strong achievement from high school through university.
  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience. Preferable majors include Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, sharing ideas and feedback without hesitation.
  • A track record of exceeding expectations and achieving outstanding results.
  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting, including collecting logs and stack traces, fine-tuning configuration files.
  • Knowledge or basic hands-on experience with 2 or more of: Linux server administration, programming fundamentals, networking, virtualization/cloud computing concepts.
  • The ability to learn quickly, thrive under change, and handle the pressure of a customer-facing role.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • An appreciation for diversity and effectiveness in a multicultural, multinational organization.
