Visual Effects Lead

Epic is seeking an experienced Visual Effects Lead to join its team working on Fortnite.

A successful candidate should have a strong sense of dramatic effects and understanding of recreating them in real-time particle editors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create all art needed for visual effects, including concept, prototypes, and final FX, with blueprint and Niagara logic, models, textures, materials, camera effects, animations, and particles.
  • Execute on a range of visual effects styles from realistic to stylized.
  • Lead a growing team of effects artists, mentor, and coach artists you work with.
  • Collaborate with other discipline teams to produce cohesive game experiences.
  • Partner with external vendors, onboard, and support production of FX outside of Epic Games.
  • Drive the style and feel of Fortnite's FX.
  • Work closely with production on schedule to deliver FX in a timely manner.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong reel/portfolio showing executed Real-Time FX work.
  • Critical eye for timing, animation, and motion of real-world objects and visual FX with ability to bring dramatic FX to life.
  • Good instincts for realistic and stylized FX.
  • Ability to create all art needed for FX.
  • Experience in VFX (games or film) is a must; shipped AAA game titles is a plus.
  • Familiarity with UE5 or other real-time engine art pipelines is a big plus.
