Mortgage Loan Underwriter Role

Join our organization as a Mortgage Loan Underwriter to perform administrative and underwriting duties in support of the mortgage loan function. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, proficient PC skills, including knowledge of loan-related software.

This position requires coordinating work within the department, as well as with other departments, to ensure efficient lending practices. Strong communication skills and interpersonal relations are necessary for success in this role.

  • The Mortgage Loan Underwriter will assist with pre-qualification underwriting and loan structuring, performing due diligence and underwriting once loans are under application.
  • They will verify and review financial loan documents, assess borrower credit worthiness, process and issue all required disclosures, communicate changes in loan terms as necessary, and prepare recommendations for credit review committees or loan originators.

This role involves reviewing loan documents for completeness, assembling loan documents in loan files, including acceptance or denial, returning files to origination mortgage loan offices, notifying all required personnel of disposition of underwriting results, and performing credit analysis and approving mortgage loans within established lending authority.

Job Requirements:
  • Education/Training: Associates Degree or equivalent knowledge normally required; specialized bank education/training related to mortgage lending.
  • Skill(s): Must demonstrate strong communication skills; proficient interpersonal relations skills; moderate analytical skills; demonstrated organizational skills; proficient PC skills, including knowledge of loan-related software; proficient knowledge of underwriting, including credit and compliance calculation and testing; proficient knowledge of applicable lending laws and regulations, i.e., Reg B, Reg Z, and Fair Credit Reporting Act; knowledge of HUD-1 and closing documents.
  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of related mortgage loan experience normally required.
