Working under the direction of the learning support teachers/coordinator and subject teachers in the Senior School, in the teaching and learning of children who have Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND).

Responsibilities:

Support pupils by:

  • Working to establish a supportive relationship with the children and their teachers to help them with their learning

  • Carrying out agreed in-class support to target learning needs and reinforce learning strategies, in order to promote independent learning and support pupil understanding

  • Promoting and reinforcing the child's self-esteem and encouraging them to maximise their achievement and development

  • Developing knowledge about particular types of special need and strategies to support learning

Support teachers by:

  • Providing support in lessons to pupils across different subject areas, under the guidance of the subject teachers and learning support coordinator

  • Supporting teachers with feedback about children's learning strengths and challenges, to help them plan lessons that meet children's needs

  • Attending planning meetings and, under the overall direction and guidance of the teacher, contributing to the short, medium, and long-term planning and preparation of lessons

  • Preparing and delivering activities and specific interventions under the direction of the teacher

  • Monitoring, evaluating, and providing teachers with feedback on pupils' participation and progress

  • Contributing to the maintenance of Individual Education Plans

  • Developing subject-specific knowledge about the curriculum and teaching schemes used at St Paul's School

  • Attending and contributing to meetings with parents and other professionals, in order to support the monitoring and development of children with SEND where appropriate

Support the school by:

  • Being aware of and working within the framework of the school's policies and procedures

  • Being aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/school matters and maintaining confidentiality as appropriate, in line with the school Safeguarding Policy

  • Contributing to behaviour management of pupils in accordance with the school policy and guidance

  • Providing cover and support in different sections of the school as required, on a temporary basis

  • Attending staff meetings and school INSET days, and undergoing training as required by the Head Teacher

  • Preparing resources and supporting the Learning Support Unit Coordinator with administrative tasks as required

This is an academic full-time post. Staff are expected to be in school from 7.30 am to 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one hour for lunch. In addition to normal working hours, the holder of this post may need to attend school meetings and functions held outside these times. The holder of the post is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfil their responsibilities and meet the needs of the school.
