Position Summary
The Territory Manager is directly responsible for leading and supporting a team of Garden Center Merchandisers and Regional Garden Center Merchandisers across many store locations.
This hands-on role combines people management, merchandising, operations, customer services, and strategic planning.
The Territory Manager will act as a key liaison between store teams and Dan & Jerry's leadership.
The Territory Manager will be responsible for the recruitment, interview process, hiring, training, and terminating in their assigned territory.
This role will travel extensively (up to 95% in the busy spring season) within assigned territory to visit and support stores and staff, driving sales and merchandising efforts, ensuring plant health and quality, supporting their employees and maintaining strong relationships with the store leaders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities are comprehensive, but not limited to:
Employee Management and Leadership:
Hire, train, coach and manage a team of Garden Center Merchandisers and Regional Garden Center Merchandisers.
Be able to make tough decisions and terminate employees when necessary.
Be a hands-on leader, working alongside your team to merchandise, and maintain all products in the garden centers.
Build trustworthy relationships with store managers and Dan & Jerry's leadership team through frequent communication, accountability, and teamwork.
Provide in-person, hands-on training to staff on merchandising, safety, store operations, product waste processes, product handling, display setup and customer service.
Store Support:
Continuous travel to the garden centers in assigned territory, being a regular presence and providing value to each store by ensuring proper store inventory and monitoring plant quality and health.
Hold regular meetings with store managers to answer questions and review sales.
Ensure stores have proper signage and proper Point of Purchase (P.O.P.) placement.
Set up and reset garden center merchandise and displays, sometimes in challenging weather conditions.
Assist with unloading products off rolling carts and setting up displays.
Planning and Administration:
Review sales data and store insights to prioritize visits and allocate resources.
Oversee your team's credit card expenses, use of company property, and timecards, ensuring all are approved by deadlines.
Monitor store performance and sales reports to proactively find ways to reduce waste and drive sales.
Experience Requirements
Successful experience in retail or merchandising leadership.
Garden Center experience or horticulture background.
Merchandising experience.
Experience performing interviews and managing a staff.
A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.
Education Requirements
High School diploma or GED.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Personal Attributes
Possesses a high level of written and oral communication skills.
Ability to be self motivated and work independently in a fast passed outdoor environment.
Strong time management, multi-tasking, and problem solving abilities.
Must interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Be organized and detail oriented.
Must have the ability to work well with others.
Demonstrates a strong work ethic, flexible with work hours, and willing to be available when necessary.

Typically, those in this or comparable roles will spend most of their time working side-by-side employees in an outdoor garden center environment with few physical hazards.
The business is seasonal, and environments can at times be cold, hot, and/or humid.
Extensive travel to stores should be expected.
