Technical Director, Office of The Chief Technology

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of professional experience in either software, hardware, or infrastructure engineering.
- Experience with technical innovation and engineering leadership.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience co-creating cloud roadmaps at executive engineering levels.
- Experience as a team-focused leader while leveraging organizational depth across functions for the benefit of transformation projects with clients and/or their own company.
- Ability to lead through influence while gathering travelers on important initiatives without authority.
- Excellent innovative thinking, collaboration, and communication skills with comfort in solving ambiguous problems.
- Ability to travel up to 30-50% of the time.
**About the job**:
In the effort to promote innovation, the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) is a forward-focused innovation organization with the goal of building pathways between research and the strategic product roadmap. Sometimes this requires concepts to be envisioned, vetted, and added to our backlog. It can also mean connecting the dots between early stage technologies inside of various organizations at Google and spotting opportunities where slight modifications to existing platforms and products can unlock businesses.
As a Technical Director, you will provide expert advice to Google, customer, and partner C-level decision-makers, often by translating the potential of technology spanning wide domains to solve critical business and/or global challenges. This requires personal engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders, including travelers inside and outside of Google. You will also recommend to Google leadership significant opportunities for technology development.
In this role, you will inspire innovators, creators, and business builders by sharing what we know and what we see so that others may benefit. We believe that breakthroughs happen through collaboration, and collaboration occurs when people are inspired to solve important problems together. Whether you are publishing in-depth research into Tensorflow, presenting at a panel on leveraging data for public good, sharing what you believe are key trends in blockchain and financial technology, or encouraging others to find more sustainable sourcing methods, you will contribute back to the larger global community of innovators.
