Job Overview

  • As a key member of our team, you will provide strategic legal guidance and representation on labor law matters.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide legal advice and interpretation on labor law issues, including collective bargaining, grievances, arbitrations, and cases before the National Labor Relations Board.
  2. Review and draft policies and guidelines for legal sufficiency; provide review and recommendations regarding labor regulatory and compliance matters.
  3. Collaborate with Labor Relations Staff and provide advice and assistance as requested.
  4. Prepare legal documents such as severance agreements, settlement agreements, collective-bargaining proposals and agreements.
  5. Represent the University in legal and quasi-legal proceedings, including District of Columbia and Federal courts and before government agencies on labor relations matters.
  6. Drafts and negotiates commitments involving University resources; principally contracts, settlements, other agreements and statements of University policy.
  7. Serves as management representative in meetings with union officials on matters pertaining to management decisions affecting bargaining-unit employees, contract negotiations, arbitrations, and unfair labor practice proceedings.
  8. Reviews documents for other University offices for legal implications and possible legal policy questions.
