Job Title: Avocado Manager

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the avocado operation, including establishment and care. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and take on a challenging role.

  2. Agricultural Expertise: The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in tree crops, specifically avocados, citrus, or macadamias. A strong understanding of agricultural principles and practices is essential.
  3. Leadership and Management: Excellent leadership and management skills are required to oversee staff and ensure smooth operations. The ability to train and develop supervisors and team leaders is also crucial.
  4. Record Keeping and Administration: Accurate record keeping and administration skills are vital to ensure the efficient running of the operation.
  5. Communication and Teamwork: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively with owners, staff, and external partners.
  6. Problem-Solving and Adaptability: The ability to think critically and solve problems creatively is essential in this role, as well as being adaptable to changing circumstances.
  7. Technical Skills: Familiarity with tractors and equipment is necessary, as well as basic maintenance and repair skills.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maize Silage Management: Assisting with the management of maize silage crop, including planting, fertilizing, spraying, and maintenance of fences.
  • Cover Crops: Working with the owner to establish cover crops behind the maize crop.
  • Pastures: Managing irrigated and dryland pastures, including planting, fertilizing, spraying, and maintenance of fences.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Agriculture or related field
  • At least 5 years' experience in tree crops (avocados, citrus, or macadamias)
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and think critically
  • Familiarity with tractors and equipment
  • Bachelor's degree in agronomy is preferred
