Job Title: Country Director

At Safeguard Global Recruiting, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Country Director to lead our animal welfare efforts in Brazil.

Job Summary:

The Country Director will be responsible for overseeing local staff in Brazil and collaborating with our headquarters to provide strategic leadership and support across departments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of HSI program staff and operations in Brazil (65%)
  • Build a cohesive and mutually supportive team in Brazil.
  • Oversee the implementation of organizational policies and procedures, as applicable.
  • Ensure orientation and training of all staff in conjunction with HSI HQ staff.
  • Conduct annual and mid-year performance reviews and provide related recommendations of salary increases, promotion or termination/disciplinary action.
  • Collaborate with VP, Country Offices and relevant program VP on the creation of job descriptions, as necessary.
  • Ensure that local program staff are coordinating with global program leads in the development of programmatic strategy and identification of resources needed for program implementation.
  • Review and submit for approval contracts and invoices in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Draft yearly budget for HSI program and operations in Brazil, ensure appropriate implementation of the approved budget.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, law, business management, international relation, or other related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in strategic communications or advocacy, preferably in the animal protection field required.
  • Experience in reviewing administrative documents including contracts and budgets.
  • Experience of working in a cross-departmental leadership position.
  • Management/supervisory experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and proactively to anticipate steps, needs and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive.
  • Ability to manage issues requiring problem resolution and conflict management with excellent interpersonal and intervention skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of business operations, including effective budget development and management processes.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to excellence, demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes.
  • Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
