Main Purpose of the Role

The Commercial Manager will serve as a liaison between customer-facing teams and external carriers, securing optimal sea freight rates for project cargo, including oversized and heavy lift shipments. This role aims to maximize business opportunities for the organization.


Working Relationships
  • Internal
    • Customer Service, Marketing, Sales - For inquiries from external customers/shippers, freight rate quotations, shipment-related issues, and business queries
    • Operations - For port approvals and space allocation
    • Finance - For invoice processing and vendor payments
    • Documentation - Resolving issues related to bill of lading release and freight documentation
  • External
    • Carriers - Interacting for quotations, rate negotiations, confirmations, and other matters
    • Carriers - Building relationships for future business opportunities
    • Agents - Addressing inquiries/shipment issues, etc.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesPricing Finalization & Carrier Relationship Management
  • Responding promptly to customer support/sales inquiries
  • Identifying carrier strengths for each trade and approaching them for rates
  • Negotiating freight rates with carriers
  • Acquiring quotes on ocean freight rates from various shipping lines in accordance with shipper requests
  • Providing quotations, considering all cost parameters set by management
  • Coordinating with carriers for smooth container planning where local CS/agents face challenges
  • Monitoring and analyzing issued bookings for final loadings onto vessels
  • Attending meetings with liners to maintain good carrier relationships, resolve pricing and booking issues, and ensure smooth business operations

Coordination with Other Functions
  • Coordinating with marketing and customer service teams for smooth pricing channel operation
  • Following up with customer service and marketing teams for shipment confirmation
  • Following up with the account department and B/L desk to process invoices and update correct freight rates in the system
  • Approving invoices for payment to carriers after verifying final invoice copies received

MIS Reporting & Market Analysis
  • Preparing the booking report and sending it to management as required
  • Exploring new carrier options for handled sectors
