Commercial Development Lead Position

The primary goal of this role is to source and partner with various data aggregators, point-of-sale software companies, and other relevant vendors. This will involve acquiring transaction log data from independent trade stores.

This position requires an individual with a solid understanding of business development strategies, especially those related to small-to-medium-sized businesses and POS software capabilities. The ideal candidate should possess strong negotiation skills, be passionate about emerging technologies, and have experience in building relationships with vendors.

The successful applicant will work closely with the Data Strategy team and regional Product Leads to ensure that vendor sourcing plans are aligned with product roadmaps. Key responsibilities include creating country-specific and channel-type sourcing plans, generating leads for POS providers and data aggregators, establishing contact with decision-makers, and presenting NIQ's eData vision and plans.

Additionally, this role involves:

  • Collaborating with the Data Strategy team and regional Product Leads to ensure alignment between vendor sourcing plans and product roadmaps.
  • Developing sourcing plans for specific countries and channel types.
  • Ongoing lead generation for POS providers, data aggregators, promotional companies, and other eData providers through research, desk research, referrals, and networking.
  • Establishing contact with decision-makers within these companies who have data partnership decision-making powers.
  • Pitching NIQ's eData vision and plans, initiating further discussions with these companies.
  • Ensuring legal documentation is in place to facilitate further discussions (Non-Disclosure Agreements).
  • Facilitating further discussions with vendors through stages of establishing store count estimates, ensuring testing data are received in a proper format, providing feedback based on test data, aligning final usable store counts.
  • Driving discussions with the Data Strategy team to craft a lucrative offering for the vendor, negotiate deals, obtain business case approval, and finalize contracts.
  • Ensuring smooth handovers of vendors to the eData and internal teams post-contract for technical aspects of vendor relationships.
  • Identifying vendors with potential for partnering and expanding their footprint within and across countries.
  • Working with Global Data Partnership teams to create expansion plans, offers, and investment requests.
  • Negotiating expansion deals and ensuring execution.
  • Participating in Retailer and Retail Tech events to showcase NielsenIQ's eData vision.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial roles (sales or customer service).
  • Ideal candidates will have a background in FMCG or Retail, while those without this background can opt for a Retail Tech background as a secondary choice.
  • Excellent communication skills, out-of-the-box thinking, and creativity in establishing contact with POS software companies and data aggregators.
  • Ability to operate independently while knowing when and how to escalate for support.
  • Strong account management skills, identifying opportunities to grow the business with collaborating vendors.
  • Confidence working with senior leadership and thriving in dynamic teams.
